Quick tour
Signing in, the workspace and team pages, your account menu, and the admin portal of Open MCP Portal's web app.
Open MCP Portal's web app is served by the portal itself at its address (its APP_URL, for example https://mcp.example.com). It follows your system's light or dark setting; you can change it in the account menu.
Signing in
The sign-in page shows the instance's name and Sign in with single sign-on, which takes you to your company's identity provider. Signing in creates your account the first time; it gives you no team and no platform role by itself. If someone invited your email address to a team, you join it when you first sign in.
When an AI client or a tool sent you to the portal, the sign-in page says so: "An app is waiting to connect" or "A tool needs one of your accounts".
The workspace
The sidebar's Workspace section is the same for everyone:
| Page | What it's for |
|---|---|
| Home | Your teams, and for platform staff a link to the admin portal |
| Catalog | The company's published MCP servers and their approved capabilities |
| My gateways | Every gateway you can connect to, with its endpoint and ready-made snippets for your AI client |
Your team's pages
Below the workspace, the team switcher picks one of your teams, and the sidebar lists its pages. Which ones you see depends on your role:
| Page | Who sees it | What it's for |
|---|---|---|
| Overview | Members | The team at a glance |
| MCP servers | Members (editors and above change them) | The servers the team runs: register, test, refresh, publish. See Registering an MCP server |
| Gateways | Members (owners and admins change them) | The team's gateways. See Building gateways |
| Service accounts | Members (owners and admins change them) | Team identities for CI and agents. See Service accounts |
| Usage | Owners, admins and editors | Calls through the team's gateways, to its servers and by its service accounts |
| Team settings | Members (the audit log: editors and above) | Members and invites, the team's audit log, limits and retention, general settings |
Platform admins and auditors can open any team's overview, servers, gateways, service accounts and settings, read-only.
Your account menu
Your name at the bottom of the sidebar opens your account menu:
- Profile: your name, email, platform role, teams, and the groups your identity provider sent at your last sign-in.
- API keys: personal keys for scripts and clients that can't sign in. See API keys.
- Connected apps: the AI clients you signed in with OAuth, per gateway. See Connected apps.
- My connections: your accounts on other services that tools use as you. See Connecting accounts.
- The colour theme, Help (when your installation sets a support link) and Sign out.
The docs write these as "Account › API keys" and so on.
The admin portal
Platform admins and auditors see a Workspace / Admin switch at the top of the sidebar. Admin mode has five groups:
| Group | Pages |
|---|---|
| People | Users, Teams |
| Catalog | MCP servers (review), Publishing, Internal networks |
| Access | Gateways (platform gateways), Trusted clients, Auth providers |
| Records | Audit log, Calls, Usage |
| Operations | Limits, Retention, Payload capture |
Auditors see every page but can't change anything. See Administer.
Finding things
Press ⌘ K (or Ctrl K) anywhere in the web app to open the command palette: it finds pages by name and by related words, such as "rate limit" or "redaction".
