Trusted clients

Choose which MCP clients skip the OAuth consent screen when people connect them to Open MCP Portal's gateways.

When someone connects an MCP client to a gateway with OAuth sign-in, Open MCP Portal shows a consent page naming the client, the host that vouches for it and the gateway. Admin › Trusted clients lists clients that skip that page. People still sign in with their company account, and a trusted client still gets only their access, one gateway at a time.

Out of the box the list holds:

LabelClient ID
Claudehttps://claude.ai/oauth/mcp-oauth-client-metadata
Claude Codehttps://claude.ai/oauth/claude-code-client-metadata
VS Codehttps://vscode.dev/oauth/client-metadata.json

Which clients can be trusted

Only clients identified by a Client ID Metadata Document: the client ID is an https URL with a path, published by the client's maker, which the portal fetches to learn the client's name and redirect addresses. Clients that registered themselves (Dynamic Client Registration) can never be trusted: their IDs change, and anyone can register any name.

Add trusted client: the Client ID (the https address of the client's metadata document, its OAuth client_id) and a Label (up to 100 characters). Up to 50 clients. Save trusted clients applies the list at once: it's read on every authorization.

Removing a client brings the consent screen back the next time someone connects it; existing connections keep working. A trusted client's first connection is still recorded in the audit log (oauth.consent with how: trusted).
